Douglas Park Community Association (“DPCA”) is grateful to operate on the unceded, ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil Waututh Nations.

Community Day is Saturday, June 21, from 11-3 pm. Please join us for an afternoon of food, games, and community performances on the East Field. June 21 is also National Indigenous Peoples Day. As part of Community Day, DPCA will be recognizing and honouring the cultures and contributions of Indigenous communities.

Prior to 2023, the summer wading pool at Douglas Park was funded by DPCA. DPCA would like to acknowledge and thank the Vancouver Park Board for taking over funding this program for a third summer. The wading pool opens on July 2.
Drop by the park on Thursday evenings this summer for a free concert with our Performance in the Park series.

After 28 years working in various roles with DPCA, we are sad to announce (but happy for her!) that DPCA’s childcare coordinator Rosie Laforges is leaving Douglas Park to take on the role of a recreation programmer at her local community centre in Squamish. Rosie has been integral to the Douglas Park team and the heart of our licensed childcare operation. We will miss her dearly and wish her all the best.

Thank you to all the DPCA volunteers, board members, DPCA and Vancouver Park Board staff, and the Vancouver Park Board.

Enjoy your summer!

Hello from the Douglas Park Community Association!

Douglas Park Community Association is grateful to operate on the unceded, ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil Waututh Nations.

We have much to keep you active this spring with new programs including Parent and Toddler Dance, Adult Ballet, Rumba, Cha Cha, Buff Bones and a Linocut Printmaking workshop. Thank you to the DPCA Program Committee and our Park Board programmers for providing new activities for the Douglas Park community each season.

Douglas Park offers licensed after school and before school care to families. We are pleased to be back up and running with 24 spots at Edith Cavell Elementary after closing due to seismic upgrading at the school. In total, DPCA now provides 116 kids with care at three locations – Edith Cavell Elementary, Emily Carr Elementary, and Douglas Park Community Centre. We’d like to acknowledge our childcare coordinator, Rosie Laforges, as well as our front-line staff of supervisors, assistants and support workers. You are great team and provide an essential service to the community.

Community Day will be held on Saturday, June 21 from 11-3pm. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Thank you to all the DPCA volunteers, board members, DPCA and Vancouver Park Board staff, and the Vancouver Park Board.

President

Hello from the Douglas Park Community Association!

Douglas Park Community Association (DPCA) is grateful to operate on the unceded, ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil Waututh Nations.

Thank you to our Park Board programmers for searching out new activities for the Douglas Park community each season. Winter 2025’s new programs include: Post-Natal Mom & Baby Yoga; Youth Cooking Group and the Heatlhspan Fitness.

The annual general meeting of DPCA was held on November 19th at which time directors were elected and auditors were appointed for the 2024/25 fiscal year. You can find our annual report on our website at douglasparkcc.org.

The board is now focusing on implementing our new three year strategic plan which was created last year to identify priorities for how to best continue DPCA’s work and carry out the following vision and mission of DPCA:

DPCA Vision: A hub where all our diverse community members are physically active and socially engaged at Douglas Park and its satellite centres.
DPCA Mission: To provide quality facilities and programming to meet the diverse needs of the Douglas Park community.

The two of the strategic goals included in the plan are to improve our inclusiveness and to enhance Douglas Park Community Centre as a third space. Generally speaking, a third space is a place where people meet, on a voluntary and casual basis, for easy and friendly conversation – a home away from home. Input from community members in our 2022 Needs Assessment was used to help identify these goals.

Hello from the Douglas Park Community Association!

Welcome to Summer 2024.

Douglas Park Community Association is grateful to operate on the unceded, ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil Waututh Nations.

Please join us for Community Day on Saturday, June 22 11-3pm. The day will include bouncy castles, performances (including a ventriloquist!), a ramen cart, and a neighbourhood walking tour. In addition, the Vancouver Heritage Foundation will be presenting a plaque to Douglas Park under the Places That Matter (PTM) program. Come try the QR code on the plaque for a link to a webpage dedicated to Douglas Park and exhibiting the plaque text, historic research, oral histories, contemporary and historic photos. We look forward to seeing you all there!

The wading pool opens July 2 (Monday – Saturday) with extended hours on Thursday and Friday evenings. DPCCA playground leaders will be there to provide a variety of activities, games, crafts, and theme days for the little ones. Performance in the Park is back to entertain the whole family at 6pm on July 4 and 18 as well as August 1 and 15. Drop by the east field to enjoy a free concert.

The Douglas Park Community Centre is operated jointly by the Vancouver Park Board and the Douglas Park Community Association. In early March Premier David Eby announced that his government will make the necessary amendments to the Vancouver Charter to dissolve the Park Board in the next legislative session further to a request from Vancouver’s city council. We have no further updates. The DPCCA board remains focused on its purpose to provide affordable and quality facilities and programming to meet the diverse needs of the people of the Douglas Park community and to encourage community use and participation of the Douglas Park Community Centre. To that end, we are working on a new three year strategic plan which includes those needs identified by the community in our 2022 Needs Assessment.

Thank you to all the DPCCA volunteers, board members, DPCCA and Vancouver Park Board staff, and the Vancouver Park Board. Enjoy your summer!

Christine Coleman
President
