Watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer fight her toughest enemy – a demon who turns her small town, Sunnydale California, into a full fledged musical!!

Watch Buffy and the gang burst into song and dance, all the while revealing their innermost secrets in this staging of the musical episode of 90s cult classic TV Series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Haven’t seen the show? No problem! This show is for all audiences, fans of Buffy and those who haven’t even heard of it alike!

This show features a live band, as well as a cast of local singers and actors. This show is being staged by Yellow House Theatre Co (@yellowhousetheatreco on Instagram!), a theatre company founded by two UBC graduates (Olivia Richards and Marcus Rahal) with the goal of showcasing emerging creatives!

Performance in the Park at Douglas Park is a free community event featuring local performers on the East Field. Families are welcome to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of live entertainment. Performances take place from 5:15 PM to 7:45 PM. No registration is required.

On July 16, additional pre-show activities will be offered before the evening performance.

From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Vancouver Athletic FC will lead sports activities and soccer drills for participants of all ages.
With international soccer excitement building across the city, this is a fun chance for kids and families to get outside, play, and celebrate soccer together in the heart of the community. Inflatable games and a bouncy castle will also be available during this time

These activities are exclusive to July 16 and are not part of the other Performance in the Park dates.
The evening performance will begin at 5:15 PM as scheduled.

Douglas Park Community Association is looking for new Board members!

We’re a small, welcoming community centre with a friendly board and caring, dedicated staff. Our mission is simply to provide affordable and quality facilities and programming to meet the diverse needs of the people of the Douglas Park community and to encourage community use and participation of the Douglas Park Community Centre.

What happens at Douglas Park Community Centre?

We are jointly operated by the Vancouver Park Board and the Douglas Park Community Association, and we provide pre-school and school-aged child care, and a wide variety of programming for teens and youth, pre-school children, adults, seniors, and people of all ages with disabilities. We are also proud to have a pottery studio, a fitness room, and a gymnasium.

What does the Board do?

We provide oversight and strategic direction to keep Douglas Park Community Centre financially sound and running efficiently, ethically, and true to its mission.

Who are we looking for?

While we’d especially love to hear from people with experience in finance, human resources, or early childhood education, we welcome anyone with skills, perspectives, and lived experiences who can help us serve our diverse community. We’re proud of what Douglas Park Community Centre represents and provides to the community, but we want your fresh ideas and unique perspective to help make it even better.

What’s the commitment?

Board members are expected to attend 8-10 evening meetings per year and join (ideally chair) at least one committee. Our standing committees include Finance, Human Resources, Programming, Licensed Childcare and Strategic Plan Advancement.

]]> Section 14.3 of the Joint Operating Agreement between the Douglas Park Community Association and the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation requires the Society, prior to the end of the first year of the term to develop a plan to spend and/or keep as operating contingency, at the Association’s discretion, its retained earnings and update that plan on an annual basis to reflect amounts actually spent in the past year, use of funds, the current balance of retained earnings and any revised plans for future spending of the retained earnings.

As noted in our 5-year strategic plan, we would like to mark our retained earnings as an operating contingency of $457,492 and continue to earmark internally for a capital project #1 – Splash Pad.  Plans for this project have been noted in Board Meetings in throughout the current and prior fiscal years, with retained earnings and total internally restricted funds ($533,204) available for this purpose.
