Parent and Tot Gym 0-5 yrs

A gym-play-based program with parent/caregiver participation. Make new friends in a family fun social program with toddler toys, interactive areas and sing-a-long songs. Wednesday’s class includes an art activity.
Register Early! Parent and Tot Gym have a maximum of 30 registered spots. Once program is fully registered, there are no drop-in’s allowed.

Facility Rentals

We offer rental spaces for meetings, social events, birthday parties, sporting events, training sessions and so much more.

Gymnasium
65ft x 45ft
$45/hour
The Gymnasium is equipped for basketball (single hoop) and multi-sport games. The Gymnasium also includes an adjoining stage, suitable for performances, presentations, and seated birthday parties (seated max. capacity 25 persons). Please note that food, drink, tables, and chairs are not permitted on the Gym floor. Eating is permitted on the stage. Sports and/or play gym equipment is not included with Gymnasium rentals.
Accessible washrooms and change/shower facilities are located nearby.

Douglas Lounge
33ft x 27ft – seated max. capacity 50 persons
$45/hour
A bright and inviting room, the Douglas Lounge is a great choice for small to medium-sized parties, meetings, training sessions, or dance practices. Two of the walls are mirrored. It is located near the facility’s common lounge area.

Laurel Room
22ft x 45ft – seated max. capacity 30 persons
$35/hour
The Laurel Room looks onto the west side of Douglas Park. It is suitable for a meeting or small social event.

Heather Room
14ft x 21ft – seated max. capacity 20 persons
$25/hour
The Heather Room looks onto the east side of Douglas Park. It is suitable for a meeting or small social event.

Willow Room
9ft x 14ft – seated max. capacity 3 persons
$20/hour
The Willow Room is suitable for studying, small meetings, or small social events. Two pianos are available in the room.

RATES & AVAILABILITY

Please see above for specific hourly room rates. Portions of an hour are possible. Please note that scheduled and ongoing community centre programming takes priority in facility rooms.

Additional fees

SOCAN fees and ReSound fees are applicable for events with music and/or dancing.

Event liability insurance is highly recommended for all rentals. Event liability insurance is required for sports bookings, rentals hiring third party entertainment, and rentals serving alcohol.

RENTAL REQUESTS

If you would like to book a room, please fill out our Rental Request form. You will receive a follow-up email or telephone call regarding your request as soon as possible, within five business days. Please note that submission of this form does not guarantee a room booking. Permits will outline Terms of Agreement, requirements and applicable fees.

What is Included with a Room Booking
• Permit to use the room within booked time
• Tables – 2.5ft x 6ft long, 30 inches high from the ground (standard table height, non-adjustable)
• Chairs – standard adult height folding chairs
• Fridge, upon request

What is NOT Included with a Room Booking
• Set-up and clean-up
• Table coverings, dishes, cutlery, candles, matches, kitchen appliances
• Play gym toys
• Sports equipment
• Pickleball nets
• Catering and/or food services
• Music/audio equipment (CD player, portable music player, speakers, microphone, etc.)
• Audio-visual equipment (television, projector, screen, laptop, etc.)
• BCLD Special Occasion permit (for a licensed/alcohol beverage function, visit https://www.bcliquorstores.com/special-occasion-licence)
• Bartenders (must have valid Serving-it-Right Certificate)

** Please do not use tape on facility walls when putting up decorations for your event

PAYMENT AND CANCELLATIONS

Payment may be completed online through your Vancouver Recreation account, over the phone, or in person at the community centre front desk. To confirm your booking, we require full payment seven days prior to your function. Should the balance not be paid within this time frame, your function may be cancelled. Full refunds will be provided if bookings are cancelled more than 3 days in advance. Cancellations within 3 days of the event are subject to a 50% cancellation fee.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  1. How early can we have access to the room? How much time can we stay afterward to clean up?
    • You will have access to the room at the start of your rental time. Please tidy and vacate the room by the end of your rental time. If you need more time to set up and clean up, please contact us to book more time.
  2. Are tables and chairs included?
    • Yes, The table dimensions are 2.5ft by 6ft.
  3. Is sports equipment/a projector/cutlery/etc. included?
    • The rental does not include sports equipment, play gym toys, audio/visual equipment (projectors, cables, tv, stereo, etc.), dishes, cutlery, candles, matches, or tablecloths. Please ensure that you bring everything you need for your event.
  4. Does the rental include staff to help set up, clean up, or supervise?
    • Staff are not included with the room rental. You are responsible for set up and clean up (which includes putting away furniture and sweeping). Please return the room to the same condition you found it in when you arrived. If you are looking for assistance in running a birthday party, a birthday party package might be a good fit!
  5. Can we have access to the kitchen?
    • Access to the kitchen is not included with room rentals. Access to the fridge may be available upon request.
  6. Can we serve alcohol?
    • Rentals may serve alcohol if they meet these conditions: the rental has been issued a special occasion permit from BCLD (requires Serving it Right); a member of the party has a Serving it Right certification; the rental has event liability insurance. Please let us know if you plan to serve alcohol.
  7. Do I need event liability insurance?
    • Event liability insurance is highly recommended for all rentals. Event liability insurance is required for sports rentals, rentals hiring third party entertainment, and rentals serving alcohol.
  8. Can I have some details on event liability insurance?
    • Event liability insurance can be purchased from any insurer; if you are looking for insurance online, many of our patrons use ca. We require a minimum coverage of $2 million. The insurance certificate must include “The City of Vancouver/Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation (all locations)” as additional insured.
  9. Can we play music? Can we have dancing?
    • If you’d like to play copyrighted music, we are required to collect SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) and Re:Sound fees. Current fees for playing music are $32.88 (per rental). Fees for playing music and dancing are $65.77 (per rental). Please let us know if you plan on playing music.   10. Can we have a piñata?
    • No, unfortunately, we do not have any spaces appropriate for hanging a piñata.
  11. Can we hire third party contractors for our event?
    • Yes; if you plan to hire anyone for your event, we require a copy of your event liability insurance.
  12. Can we rent a room after facility hours?
    • After-hours rentals are not available at this time.
  13. What if we need to cancel our booking?
    • Full refunds will be provided if bookings are cancelled more than 3 days in advance. Cancellations within 3 days are subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
