Douglas Park Community Centre has something for everyone no matter what skill or ability. Dance and Music to get you moving and grooving; Painting and Drawing to inspire your artistic abilities; Pottery for all levels of expertise; Language programs to prepare for future travel; Outdoor leisure activities in Hiking & Walking to get you into the great outdoors, as well as Day Trips to exciting locations in the Lower Mainland and popular Health and Wellness programs such as Yoga and Pilates to get your body in top shape. Adult Sports such as Indoor Soccer, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball and Pickleball provide for a full range of recreation options for our community members.

Fitness

Outdoor Total Body Strengthening 55+ yrs
Rachel King
This class is geared towards adults who would like to develop or to maintain muscular bone and joint health. This one hour class is designed to improve cardio health, functional strength, balance and coordination, posture, range of motion and flexibility. This class will take place on the east side of the community centre.

Outdoor Strength and Balance 55+ yrs
Rachel King
The Stretch & Core class will focus on increasing flexibility and calming the mind. All ages and physical capabilities are welcome. No cardio – all stretch poses for your entire body with a focus on core strengthening for lower back and abdominals. This class will take place on the east side of the community centre.

Sport

Pickleball – Recreational 55+ yrs
No Instructor
Pickleball is a combination of Ping-Pong, tennis, and badminton and has been enjoyed for over 20 years by people of all ages. This mini-tennis game is played by 2 people on a badminton-sized court using wood paddle racquets and a plastic, poly baseball with holes. This is for the beginner or recreational player and not for those that are competitive or advanced. There are only 4 spots available and you are only allowed to play singles if all 4 participants attend. We recommend that you register with a partner. Please bring your own racquet and ball. No session July 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, August 2 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Learn to play the piano at your own pace! All ages and levels are welcome. You will learn how to play piano by sight and by ear, improvise and improve your technique. You will explore Classical and popular music based on your interests. Books are an additional cost. No session July 31 and August 2.

Violin Lessons – Private 5+ yrs

Join as a complete beginner or tune up your violin skills. Students of all levels are welcome! Learn the violin in supportive environment with a dedicated teacher, who will also provide you with information on how to get the appropriate size and type of violin. Lessons are 30 minutes duration.

Chair Yoga 55+ yrs
Into Yoga
Explore gentle Yoga poses, breathing exercises and meditation while using a chair for support. This class is beneficial for people with decreased mobility, pain/discomfort in the body, or simply want to experience a new way of doing Yoga. Safely receive all of the benefits of a traditional Yoga class (ease stiff muscles, increase flexibility, improve posture, and release stress) without having to get up and down from the floor. Chair Yoga is suitable for everyone.
