Youth Programs

 

Douglas Park Community Centre offers many Recreation programs for youth aged 13-18 years. Participate in sport, recreational, social, cultural, and educational programs. At the same time, develop important relationships with friends and specially trained staff.

Our Community-based youth worker provide additional support and resources to youth aged 8 to 18 years, while dealing with the broad range of developmental issues facing today’s young people.

The youth worker’s mission is to develop the capacity of youth by engaging them in active participation in the community using a holistic approach.

Visual Art

Outdoor Photography: Smartphone 12-16 yrs

If taking pictures is a passion of yours then join us as we dive deeper into the art of creating beautiful photographs using smartphone cameras. This introductory course is composed of lectures, outdoor photo walks, and constructive photo critiques focusing on the fundamentals of photography. Bring your smartphone to each class and dress for the weather as most of the class will be outside.

Performing Art

K-Pop for Teens 13-16 yrs
What Started as a small genre of music has now become a global phenomenon with K pop fans. This class is a fun and high energy class. K- pop will allow you to improve your dance skills each week, No experience necessary

Youth Leadership

Summer Leadership 11-14 yrs
Leadership camp is for today’s youth promoting tomorrow’s future. Youth will be engaged in developing leadership skills such as, teamwork, communication skills, goal setting and encouraging the development of a healthy mind. Each day will be filled with various activities as well community walking trips.

Violin Lessons – Private 5+ yrs

Traditional Kung Fu
Marquis Lung
Learn traditional forms of Kung Fu, weapons, non-contact sparring and self-defence. Gain physical and mental strength, self confidence and discipline. Class are taught in partnership with Marquis Lung Traditional Kung Fu Academy. A member fee for the Northern Shaolin Lung Chi Cheung Association is included in program course fee. Douglas Park Senior Youth Council 13-18 yrs

The Douglas Park Senior Youth Council promotes youth program planning. They help with community projects, special events, fundraising, and address current trends and issues found amongst youth. Each year the council finds a social or environmental issue that they spend some of the meeting addressing and finding ways they can help. Meetings are recorded for volunteer hours. Come to meetings and meet other fellow youth in the community and have fun! The youth council consists of an annually elected Executive and is supervised by the Community Youth Worker and other Douglas Park Youth Staff. We meet every Wednesday online .* youth worker will assist you with joining our team online
